Nineteen Eighty-Four
I just finished reading "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell, and it was really cool. Disturbing in many places, and definitely thought-provoking. Written in 1949, it is where the whole 'Big Brother' idea began.

I just read that book for the first time a year or so ago. Great book and as you say very thought provoking. I wouldn't recommend it if you are feeling depressed though ...
Yes, good point. It might not be the best read under those circumstances!
